Stuck With a Bad Copier Deal?

You're not the first. The copier industry has a habit of locking businesses into contracts that don't serve them. Here's what you can actually do about it.

Sound Familiar?

The machine breaks down constantly

And the engineer takes three days to show up. Or they 'fix' it and it breaks again a week later.

The bills keep going up

Annual increases you didn't expect. Excess charges for colour you didn't budget for. 'Admin fees' that appeared from nowhere.

Nobody answers the phone

You ring your account manager. Voicemail. You ring again. Different person every time. Nobody knows your setup.

You're paying for pages you don't print

Minimum volume charges well above your actual usage. Paying for 10,000 pages when you print 4,000.

The contract auto-renewed

You missed the 90-day notice window and now you're locked in for another 12 months on terms you didn't want.

They sold you the wrong machine

Too big, too small, too slow, wrong features. Nobody asked how your office actually works.

Your Options

The honest truth: getting out of a copier lease early isn't free. But there are options, and some of them are better than you'd think.

1

Check Your Notice Period

Dig out your contract and find the termination clause. Most leases require 90 days' written notice before the end date. If you're within that window, you can give notice now and be free at the end of the term. If you've just missed it and rolled over, you'll need to wait for the next window, so set that calendar reminder now.

2

Get a Settlement Figure

Ring your current provider (or the finance company, they're often different) and ask for a settlement figure. This is the cost to buy out the remaining lease. It's usually the total of remaining monthly payments, sometimes with a small discount. Write it down. You'll need it for the next step.

3

Talk to Us About a Takeover

Here's where it gets interesting. In many cases, we can absorb the remaining cost of your old lease into a new agreement with us. You get a new machine, proper service, and transparent terms, and the cost of getting out of your old deal is spread across the new contract. It's not free money (the cost has to go somewhere), but it means you're not paying a lump sum to escape.

We do this regularly. We've taken over contracts from most of the big national dealers. The process takes about two weeks from start to finish.

4

Know Your Rights (as a Business)

Important caveat: business contracts don't have the same consumer protections as personal ones. The Consumer Rights Act doesn't apply to B2B agreements. That means you can't claim mis-selling in the same way a consumer could. However, if the contract contains terms that were clearly misrepresented, you may have grounds to challenge them.

We're not lawyers, and we'd always recommend getting legal advice if you think you've been properly stitched up. But in our experience, the fastest route out of a bad deal is a new deal that absorbs the old one, not a legal fight.

Why People Switch to Us

You ring us, a person answers

Not a call centre. Not a ticket system. An actual human who knows your name and your machine.

4-hour engineer response

In-house engineers based in Kent and London. 'Response' means someone's on their way, not 'we got your email'.

Transparent contracts

Lease and service agreement, same length. No hidden charges. No excess colour fees. Read our lease guide for the full story.

We absorb your old contract

Where possible, we roll the remaining cost into your new agreement. No lump-sum escape fee.
