What Is uniFLOW?
uniFLOW is the print and scan management platform made by Canon (developed by NT-ware, a wholly-owned Canon company). It sits between your users and your printers, and it does three jobs at once: it makes printing secure, it tracks the cost of every page, and it automates what happens to scanned documents. Think of it as the brain that turns a fleet of photocopiers into a properly managed, properly auditable print environment.
There are two editions. uniFLOW Online is the cloud subscription: no on-premise server, Canon handles updates and uptime, you log in through a browser. uniFLOW Suite is the on-premise enterprise version for organisations with strict data-residency rules or very large fleets. Most businesses we install for go with uniFLOW Online. And every modern Canon device ships with uniFLOW Online Express free of charge, which covers basic secure print release and scan-to-cloud out of the box.
uniFLOW works best on Canon hardware (the integration is hardware-level: card readers, embedded interface, firmware integrity verification), but the cloud platform supports a limited range of non-Canon devices too. For mixed fleets we usually steer customers towards PaperCut MF; for Canon-led fleets, uniFLOW wins on depth.

Canon's Filing Assist runs on the device itself. You drop a stack of mixed documents into the feeder and the AI reads each one, classifies it (invoice, contract, expense receipt, ID document), names it sensibly using its actual content, and files it into the right folder in OneDrive, SharePoint, Google Drive or your document management system.

Does uniFLOW work with non-Canon printers?
uniFLOW Online supports a limited range of non-Canon devices for secure printing. The deepest integration (Filing Assist AI, embedded interface, firmware integrity, device-level cost capture) is on Canon hardware. What is the difference between uniFLOW Online and uniFLOW Online Express?
uniFLOW Online Express is included free with every modern Canon device and covers basic secure print release and scan-to-cloud. uniFLOW Online (the paid subscription) adds cost accounting, departmental budgeting, mobile printing, Microsoft 365 integration, Filing Assist AI workflows and compliance reporting. For most businesses that care about cost control or security, the paid version pays for itself quickly.

Canon-led fleets almost always get more value from uniFLOW because the integration runs at firmware level: faster authentication, AI scanning on the device, native Microsoft 365 scanning, and UK/EU data residency for GDPR. Can uniFLOW replace our existing pull-printing or secure release system?
Yes, in almost every case.
